Meet the Charity Behind the Colchester Half Marathon

When you think of the Colchester Half Marathon, you probably picture running up North Hill, cheering crowds and that incredible buzz at the finish line. But what many don’t realise is that this incredible community event is organised by a local charity, The Robin Cancer Trust.

Founded in 2012 in memory of Robin Freeman, the charity is the UK’s only testicular, ovarian and germ cell cancer charity, working tirelessly to save lives through education, awareness campaigns and support for young people affected by these cancers.

The Robin Cancer Trust is the charity partner at the heart of The Colchester Half Marathon.

By taking part in the Colchester Half Marathon, you’re not just signing up for 13.1 miles, you’re helping to raise vital funds and awareness for a cause rooted right here in our community.

A Race with Local Heart ❤️

Now in its 13th year, the Colchester Half Marathon has become one of the town’s biggest annual events, attracting runners from across Essex and beyond. Over the years, it has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity, supported runners to achieve incredible personal milestones and brought the community together!

Toby’s Big Ballsy Challenge 💪

If you’ve spotted the charity’s CEO Toby Freeman hitting the streets of Colchester at last year’s race or taking part in local events dressed as a giant testicle, then you’ve already witnessed Toby’s Big Ballsy Challenge in action!

Toby has set himself the challenge of running 500K dressed as a giant testicle to raise awareness of testicular cancer. So far, he’s ticked off London and Brighton Marathons and run the entire length of Hadrian’s Wall! His energy, humour and determination have helped start conversations and drive life-saving awareness of the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer, which if detected early enough is 95% curable. Learn about the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer here.

👉 Whether you’re running for fitness, fun, or a personal challenge, every step you take in the Colchester Half Marathon helps support the life-saving work of The Robin Cancer Trust.
