We caught up with Austen King - UK & Ireland Sales Manager of Ewals Cargo Care to learn more about how he is preparing for the Colchester Half Marathon!
“As someone who's deeply passionate about sports, I've been involved in running, triathlons, cycling, and pretty much anything that gets me moving and so over the years I've competed roughly 10 half marathons. Each one has been a unique experience, but I tend to be quite competitive, so I always push myself to the limit, making every race a tough but rewarding challenge.
So, why did I sign up for the Colchester Half-Marathon? For me, whilst I do take it quite serious, it is ultimately all about the joy of competing in a well-organised event with fellow enthusiasts. There's something incredibly motivating about being part of a community that shares the same passion for running.
To prepare for the event, this year my approach to training has been a bit different. I've had a few injuries recently, which made me question whether I could even run the distance, and so because of this I've shifted my focus from training for competition to something less intense. I’m still doing regular jogs, some gym time, and a bit of careful eating, but I’m not pushing myself as I would normally and so far everything is holding up well. My tip for anyone training, whether for competition or more casually, is always to make sure it's enjoyable—it's not about winning the Olympics, but about having fun and staying healthy.
As for my goals for the race, this time round I'm just aiming to soak up the atmosphere, the
Colchester Half Marathon, which I’ve run 2 times previous, is a great event and you get to see some lovely parts of the city.I’ll be running with work colleagues and many will be in the crowd cheering us on.
I’ll also be running with my partner, who is also a keen runner, and she will be competing alongside me. Running with friends and family really adds a whole extra level to the experience so really looking forward to it with just 2 weeks to go!”
